The boys want and need to eat before we head to my in-laws to open gifts with them, but we also have to get ready and open our own family gifts before we leave. I want to do something special for breakfast, but making a gourmet breakfast Christmas morning seems daunting. And our Christmas Eve is full as well so making something like a breakfast casserole ahead of time seems a little stressful too.
SO, we decided on cinnamon rolls.
Like the kind from the can.
I know. You're impressed. :)
But the boys love it! After I cook them, I pop a candle in the middle and we sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus. They get their little bellies full and we continue on with our morning. I love that this fun little tradition helps us focus on the true meaning of Christmas in the midst of the craziness of Christmas morning and doesn't stress me out more (as long as I remember to pre-heat the oven!)

When we have everyone at our house on Christmas morning (every other year) we do breakfast crepes. They are such a big hit! This year we are doing Christmas morning at home and then visiting family, so I'm trying a new crock pot breakfast casserole and continuing a tradition from my childhood...monkey bread! It's super easy! Love your candle idea! :)
ReplyDeletewe have the canned cinnamon rolls, too. they are a great way to start the morning with their yummy smell filling the house. i've been a follower for a while, but don't think i've ever commented. just want to tell you how beautiful your site is...
ReplyDeleteWe go to Church on Christmas Eve and on Christmas morning. I have done this since I was a little girl. Presents can wait until after we have celebrated the greatest gift of all - the Christ child.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so glad to hear you keep it simple on Christmas morning. I always feel guilty because we too have to head over to my parent's house shortly after opening our own presents and always seem to be rushed!
ReplyDeleteI love that you sing Happy Birthday to Jesus! Things like that make me wish I had kids now. So cute!
ReplyDeleteWe learned our boys' first Christmas, that overplanning made everything stressful. I make a sausage bread (so yummy!) the day before and just heat it in the oven Christmas morning. Thanks for sharing! Stopping by from WLWW.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to blog about ways to teach kids the Bible! I enjoyed reading your Welcome page. And, BTW, I never outgrew my love for those cinnamon rolls out of a tube. Love 'em!
ReplyDeleteShrimp & grits, our Christmas morning tradition. My husband worked for so many Christmases we wanted to make a special tradition. I love when our children, 12 & 6, share with others what we do. I know it means alot to them.
