The Jesus Storybook Bible Review

This book fits the theme of this blog well.  Pointing our little ones to Christ.  In The Jesus Storybook Bible, Sally Lloyd-Jones does just that.  The subtitle gives me goosbumps:  Every Story Whispers His Name.  The author does a great job of using the stories of the Old and New Testaments to direct our attention to the hope promised in the Messiah.  I love it because it's the presentation of biblical stories that we want to teach our kids with an application that shows them their need (OUR need) for a Savior.  If you haven't seen this book, I promise your child (AND YOU) will be blessed by the beautiful words of this book and have your eyes opened to how God masterfully weaves the promise of a Savior through his Story.

This book was first gifted to us by a family member who was drawn in by the beautiful illustrations. I will be honest, when we first received the book, Lauren was around a year old. I took a brief look through it and then sat it on our shelf. (At that time Lauren would barely sit through a short board book.) When Lauren turned two I decided to bring it back down and introduce it during our before bed reading time. The book is recommended for ages four and up, but Lauren was fascinated by it. She sat still through it. She started requesting it each night. She carried it around and "read" it during the day. Today, our copy has a bruised spine and lots of page wear, but I like it that way.

I think what drew her, and myself, in is the beautiful way the book is written. The words flow so poetically and the illustrations are breathtakingly beautiful. The content is still a little over her head, but I feel confident that the words are sinking into her little heart. I also know this is a Bible that will grow with her as she grows!

So, whether your child is ready for it now or not, it IS a book you will want to invest in at some point.  Put it on your wishlist, or buy it right now!
